Alexander Novak: A rapid transition to clean energy sources is not a very effective energy policy
A rapid transition to clean energy sources is not a very effective energy policy. This opinion was voiced by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak at the Russian Energy Week.
“No one refuses, of course, that it is necessary to introduce renewable energy sources, to increase their share in the energy balance, but this must be done gradually. This must be done taking into account the growth in energy consumption in the world,” Novak emphasized.
He emphasized that the era of hydrocarbons will remain in the world for a long time. Thus, in 2021, 86% of the global energy balance was the share of oil, gas and coal, and only 13% was hydro generation, wind, and sun. Nuclear energy covers only 4%. And this balance, according to Novak, needs to be transformed “smoothly and smoothly.”
