Trigeneration is a technology for the combined production of thermal, electrical and cooling energy. The key feature of this technology is the use of part of the thermal energy generated during the operation of a gas piston/gas turbine unit to create cooling energy to satisfy the technological needs of production or air conditioning of premises.
Trigeneration is an additional technological improvement of cogeneration (read more here).
The principle of operation of a trigeneration plant: as a result of the operation of the GPU/GTU, excess associated thermal energy is released, the production of which does not require additional costs; further, the thermal energy recovery system, consisting of waste heat boilers and heat exchangers, directs heat to the technological or heating needs of an industrial facility, thereby implementing the principle of cogeneration; the remainder of the associated energy - through the absorption lithium bromide refrigeration system (ALBRE) - is converted directly into refrigeration energy and sent to meet the needs of the facility (technology, air conditioning).
